Medical Professional, Trainer & Author

ProAdvocates founder Pat Karns brings his extensive experience working in the medical industry to Won For All. He is a Certified Athletic Trainer with a CCISM (Certification in Critical Incident Stress Management) and an Emergency Medical Technician with over three decades of experience. Pat previously served as an Athletic Trainer in both the NHL and NBA, including a 10-year stint as the Head Athletic Trainer for the Colorado Avalanche, a team that saw nine conference titles, 150 playoff games, and two Stanley Cups during his time with the team. He currently serves as an Athletic Trainer to professional athletes in the USTA Pro Circuit Tennis Tournaments and serves on the NATA AT’s Care Commission.
Based on his training and medical experience, Pat realized that there was a critical unmet need for retired professional, collegiate, Olympic, and Paralympic athletes, so he founded ProAdvocates which combines a trusted medical referral network, with a medical record system for retired athletes from every level.
His continuing research involves clinical trials (using QEEG and neuro-psychological exams) to test “The Effects of CBD on the Brain of Retired Professional Athletes.” He was also the lead investigator in a widely publicized landmark study of rollerblading as an effective new fitness training technique. In addition to his research, he worked as an assistant professor and has presented as a guest lecturer at numerous symposia and conferences.
Pat holds an MA in Physical Education and a BA in Psychology with a minor in Athletic Training. Karns received the USOC appointment to the Men’s Ice Hockey Team at the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City, an honor preceded by considerable international experience in Athletic Medicine.
